Club Future

Hi fellow Banjo Club members and friends of the Club.
I have sent this as an email but thought I would post here as well just in case anyone missed the email.
Our last meeting, scheduled for the end of April was a bit of a disaster and embarrassing to be honest and that has got me thinking. I have thought about it since the end of April rather than responding immediately.
There just doesn't seem to be the interest needed to keep the club going.
I know that many of you like the idea of a regular meet up where we can play together, learn and chew the fat. We have had some good nights where everything seems fine.
The reality is though, without a number of people who can attend regularly the Club cannot live on. I know that we all have busy lives with work and families, I know that some of you have a long way to travel and I understand that none of us can guarantee that we will be able to meet up every month. Without a commitment from at least a few people there won't be a club to attend for those who can, or only want to, attend occasionally.
We have struggled with a format for meetings. I think from talking to a few of you separately that there are different ideas about what you would like the meetings to include – without people coming to meetings and having a proper discussion about it we cannot possibly set it up so that the sessions provide what people want.
In the past The Red Lion have kindly offered us free use of the room and I don't believe it is fair to mess them around. I do question if it is worth it for them to keep the room for us, in fact at the last event another group were in the room we have used. This gave me a clear view of the value the Club gives to the pub. Again, without people attending there isn't the money going over the bar to convince them that we are worth holding the room for.
Considering these points and after some thought I have decided that I will no longer be involved in the Banjo Club.
I will certainly carry on playing. If anyone does want to keep the club going I wish you well and if you do then please let me know. I can provide the mailing list of current members and will attend if I can, and if I am invited of course.
I did say in the email that unless I heard otherwise before Saturday 25th May I was going to tell Ian at the Pub that we won't be meeting again.
I will call him later today to do just that.
It is sad but the last few months have been a struggle and on balance I just don't feel it is worth the effort to keep it going.

That's a shame, I have only just discovered that the club existed and now it's gone without me getting chance to come along. I play in Wakefield twice a month already, 1st Sunday at Fernandes and 3rd Sunday at the Bull and Fairhouse. I'm sure that any members that want somewhere to ply would be made more than welcome.

1st Sunday and 3rd Sunday sessions are now both at the Bull and Fairhouse, which in turn as been renamed to The Polka Hop is is on George street in Wakefield and and start at 13:30
