I played a bit of Clawhammer with the Banjo I made with my father when I was 17. However, when I went off engineering school I found little time to play. Of course I managed to see the RFD Boys in Ann Arbor and drink beer on Fridays. In 2006 my wife and I took some vacation in Lake Tahoe and we went to a bluegrass festival and it turns out she liked the music. She knew I had a banjo but she never heard me play (some careful deception on my part). As chance would have it the Seldom Scene were playing here in Boston and we went to see them and met lots of folks from the Boston Bluegrass Union. Before I knew it I was playing, taking lessons, going to see more music and even managed to find a jam to play at around the corner from where we live here in Boston. Most recently I purchased a second banjo (GoldStar GF 100W), so I can keep the one I made with my father safe (it really is setup to play Clawhammer). I am having a blast playing and find it a great stress relief from the challenges of designing cpu chips. My hope is to play well enough one day to play at the Cantab Lounge Cambridge with some friends. Oh, and of course I am a member of Red Sox Nation! Happy Pickin! /Joe
