Originally from Simcoe, Ontario (south of Brantford). Transplanted to Toronto in the mid 1980s for university. Messed with bluegrass banjo from the age of 11 on an ancient Gold Tone. Bought a decent 5-string with the proceeds of my first student loan in 1986. Now mostly play a Deering with a Sosebee compensated bridge. Apart from banjo, I'm a faculty member in the Dept of Public Health Sciences at Univ of Toronto, specializing in biological hazards (my background is in mycology).
