Started playing in Nov 04 at the age of 22. Have been listening to Bluegrass forever, and although I never thought I had any musical ability, I love playing it as much or more than listening.
When folks asked me what I'd like to play, I'd make them laugh as I replied "the 5-string banjo". I was at a festival in St Paul, NB when I first looked at one, but never put much thought into it. In November I went to a music shop with a friend of mine who was having someome look at his guitar when I met one of my professors from university who caught me playing with a banjo they had in the store. He told me that he had one at home that he bought about 10 years ago and never learned how to play it - and then he asked me if I wanted to borrow it to try it out. Well I did and 3 months later I bought a Fender FB-58.
I've been playing now for about 3 years and havent looked back. I just got my custom Huber Lancaster (curly maple speed neck) and this thing is a cannon!! The first time I jammed with it (the day after I got it) the guitar player in our band said "Holy sufferin!!!" Enough said.
What started off as an inquiry became an obsession.
