Favorite Bands/Musicians:
Let's start off by stating-I like Snuffy Jenkins as he was the first three finger banjo picker,so far as history knows at this time. Following by another inovator:Bill Monroe,he found a new use for a mandolin,it became a lead instrument with it's uses being a percussion instrument after that. For the bands: The first two ,following will be:Flatt&Scruggs,Jimmy Martin, Jim & Jesse, now for banjo pickers following in Snuffy's footsteps are: Rudy Lyle, for this reason,Rudy stepped in and did banjo work for Bill Monroe that was mistaken for earl Scruggs' after he had left Bill . Remember Whitehouse Blues and Rawhide. Rudy Lyle is far underappreciated for his work. Don Reno,Eddie Adcock,Bobby Thompson,Carroll Best.. My favorite entertainers are Grandpa Jones,Stringbean, and Leroy Troy. These men inveted themselves,so did a guy named Mike Snyder.

Played round 30 yrs now, enjoy it more each day, especially when I teach a person to play who really has been bitten by the bug so hard that they can't sleep. Seeing a person learn is a great feeling. Several years ago,I was stricken with Rhmatoid arthritis, since that time I have not been able to do a lot of single string, but I still try to practice daily with the seris of moves that are nessary to keep a song gonig well with back-ups and lead moves. I have always felt that a good place for the banjo to be heard is in behind a singer singing a sad mornful song, good back up just can't be replaced with any other instrument.
