In Oct, my parents came to visit from California. My wife and I took them to Nashville to see the Grand Ole Opry. We booked the tickets a month in advance and never checked to see if the apperance lineup had changed. When we arrived at the show, we found out it was the 81st birthday bash for the Opry and as the curtain went up I could see Ricky Scaggs in the wing.(he was a scheduled apperance),, but as I looked past him... I saw a man with a banjo.. Holy moly.. it was Earl! What a fantastic surprise since he was not on the schedule when I booked the tix.
We were treated to several songs with Ricky on mandolin and the master himself playing his Gibson! This was really special since my dad is a banjo picker and a huge fan of Earl as well.
I'm glad we had a chance to see him play live as it may have been our only chance.
