I currently reside in North-Eastern Illinois and I have played guitar and bass semi-professionally since beginning at age 12....I do currently own a fine collection of those instruments....(although having sold several of them off in order to purchase my new banjos.) I have secretly entertained a strong desire to learn the 5-string banjo....in fact for many-a-year....having grown-up back East in the Appalachian foothills where I was exposed to bluegrass and 'roots music' at an ealy age. I finallly made the 'switch' to learning 5-string banjo during the latter part of 2007 and am a novice player who is patiently and gradually acquiring the skills to mastering a totally new instrument. I'm pleased and encouraged with my progress, thus-far as I apparently have natural aptitude and it does not harm that I spent considerable time studying 'fingerstyle guitar' for some years....PRIOR to commiting to learn the skills of 5-string in bluegrass style. Now....I'm completely taken by the banjo and recently have purchased two very fine instruments for which I am both grateful and proud to own...and I expect that they will serve me well for the remainder of my life as an aspiring banjo player! I am sure that I hold with many....in stating that the 'Banjo Hangout' is the very-best source, (if not the ONLY source) on the internet)....to stay both informed and in-touch with all that learning and enjoying the banjo entails. I am very pleased that I have made the decision to join all of the other folks who are here. Now that I have formally made my 'switch' to the banjo....it is certain to be an informative and rewarding experience to be HERE....with all of YOU!
