Even with all the free and low cost DVD courses and online banjo courses all over the internet I kept getting a nagging feeling that I was missing something, maybe I wasn't doing something just right.. Sooo I started taking lessons just to make sure... well the instructor said I had the basics down with no problem so we used the first lesson figuring out what I could do already and set a course from there, focusing on the weaknesses first...
After my second lesson I am finding it easier to plow thru and actually learn the tougher stuff. STILL a long way from any form or "public" performances but very happy with my progress personally.
The first thing I needed to overcome was a "swing" beat in my picking... no doubt from guitar picking... The timing is good, it's just a slight "lope" to my rolls that will prevent me from picking up the speed I will need later.
Basics... Basics... Basics.... Robotic metronome picking now.. flair later.. :)
