I live in Empangeni, Kwa-Zulu Natal, South Africa. At the age of 12 I taught myself how to play the guitar and about a year ago I taught myself how to play traditional Zulu music (Maskanda) which requires the use of two finger picks, one for the thumb and one for the forefinger. In 2008, I attended a music festival, Splashy Fen, with my uncle and spent some time listening to a South African Bluegrass band which encouraged me to start playing my late fathers Banjo. I have since started writing songs that combine the two styles (Maskandi and Bluegrass Banjo) and according to the response I have had, have been very successful with this new genre. A very exciting new development for me!
