I live in Morgan City, Alabama, atop beautiful Brindlee Mountain, about ten minutes away from Huntsville, the Rocket City. I like to play ol' timey country, and am trying to adapt to the speed of bluegrass. I began years ago playing rythm guitar at jams, played electric bass on timey for a while, then began playing "get by" banjo behind an ol' timey fiddler. We would occasionally play out at an auction or whatever, then played as a band (Brindlee Mtn Boys) every other fri night for several years. I'm the only survivor of that group of ol'timers, and I miss them. In Oct I got to attend the Athens Ol' Timey Fiddlers Convention in North Alabama. Took along my banjo and jammed a couple of hours. Was enourmous fun!! A couple of years ago I decided to take formal lessons from a gentleman by the name of Burton Sampson to learn the Scruggs style. After a few months I was able to begin learning tunes by ear. BHO's Media archives has been a rich source of music to learn. I try to find a slow version of a tune to learn the notes, then go to a faster version to pick up speed. Backup music is much appreciated. I hope to start jamming with some guys in Arab, Al in the near future, so things are looking up. Oh yeah, I like rock and blues on guitar a lot!
