Hi all! I'm new to the community and this is my first blog entry. does anyone have a hartford model banjo that they have tuned low the way he did. I understand he tuned to E flat, I think, and he even used different strings? 2 wound strings? I always wondered how he got that deep mellow sound. Anyone tried it? If so, what strings do you use? 4 comments

I played banjo as a teenager then put it away for 10 years. Now I'm rediscovering it and loving it! I can appreciate the traditional masters like Mr. Scruggs, The innovators like Bella, and original voices like John Hartford. I'm playing daily now and hope to get up to speed and jam with old and new friends real soon.
