I was fortunate enough to be raised with good bluegrass music as a steady diet since my father is a banjo player too. He would play his collection of F&S records regularly and have his band rehearse at our home. Dad started showing me tunes on the banjo when I was 10 years old. At first the lessons were something to do when we were camping and it was raining outside. A few years later I became interested in learning more tunes and Dad showed me how to play them. The banjo became a part of my life that provided many opportunities to meet and play with other musicians from all around the country. While I was in school I was able to play a few gigs each month and give banjo lessons to help out with my expenses. After completion of my formal education I focused on my career but was able to play banjo in a number of local groups and festivals.
