I started playing the five string in '99 and found it very addicting. I am on my second banjo, a Fender Leo. I play Scruggs style.
I attend local jams here with the Desert Bluegrass Assoc. I also now play with a small church band doing gospel and worship music, which the banjo fits in nicely. I recently bought a Dobro and I'm starting to learn that as well. Did I mention I am having FUN?!
