I just restrung my old Ode Longneck for the upcoming Mill Around the Village www.millaroundthevillage.com/ festival to be held in Swannanoa NC this weekend. I know they will have a band there, but no one said I couldn't bring my banjo!
I got this Ode in 1986 or so from a fellow in Virginia, or rather my ex got it from him and gave it to me for my birthday. It is a fine banjo, open backed, but with an arched tone rim that rings a little too loud for clawhammer. Had to do some work on the neck, and no I am not a repairman, though I do build dulcimers, and finally got the action to approach the way I want it. The neck had evidently been stepped on at some point, and I managed to get it back together with judicious use of epoxy and alternate paryer and cussing.
Also have a traditional Appalachian style banjo made by a fellow from Newland. Looks very old, and most people don't even know what it is until I start playing it.
Hopethe show is a success, as i am selling silver wire jewelry there Saturday!

Playing banjo in the Old Time Mountain (Southern Appalachian) style particular to western Buncombe and Madison Counties of North Carolina learned from Byard Ray, the Southern Appalachian fiddler. I do NOT play Bluegrass.
