Eric Van der Wyk was born in San Antonio, Texas and grew up in San Francisco and Sacramento, California. At the age of 10 he decided to learn the banjo and studied with folk legend Tom Hobson. At 13, his interest in electronic music and his father’s connection to the world of avant-garde music lead to lessons with Terry Riley where he learned the basics of electronic music composing and recording techniques of the late 1960s. Eric’s secondary education includes attendance at the University of Vermont where he studied Math, Music & Philosophy and the Ali Akbar College of Music where he became Ali Akbar Khan's first banjo student. Eric has performed as a street musician in San Francisco, New Orleans, Boston, New York and Toronto. He has performed in opening acts for Leon Russell and Ray Charles. Eric is a Takoma Crysalis recording artist and currently produces original music and recordings and provides audio restoration services on his own label, King Tet Productions in San Diego, California.
