I love it all, from the Beatles to Wagner. But banjo related: Earl, then Earl, then some more Earl; BIG fan of Danny Barnes; can't get enough of listening to Jürgen Biller; greatly admire the playing of Eugene O'Brien (Sons of Navarone); but my goal is to become my own favorite player so that I won't ever run out of music to listen to.

I had been living in Germany for a few years and was nearly forty years-old when I bought a bluegrass collection on a whim for dirt cheap from a mail order music company. It was cheap, and I was homesick, and I bought it almost as a joke. But there was fire in the music, and I got hooked. Now I've lived in Germany for well over a decade, and I frail the banjo and play a large variety of music with it. But having attended Banjoree here in Europe for the second time, and having recently returned from the European World of Bluegrass festival in Holland in May of 2009, I've decided to actually make the attempt to learn three-finger style playing. I figure that maybe the Hangout can help me. Maybe not. Maybe there is no help for me. That's my story for now.
