I have worked on the compensated nut idea for some time and have come up with a plan that works. I do not use a compensated nut but use a adjustable nut for each string that way it can be changed anytime that it is needed due to string wear or change in the neck. I also compensate the 5th string. This works at any point that I place the capo and remains in tune as far as the ear is concerned at any place on the neck. Having realized their is no perfect tuning plan on a string instrament I strive for what the ear is hearing and it is much better than I have ever experianced. But this does not damage or mess up the banjo in any way and can be removed in minuits. Hoye Breedlove
