Sore fretting fingers

I just started banjo lesson around Thanksgiving 2010 and am having a great time with my banjo and practice at least 1 hour each day. 

I truly am all thumbs at this time and sometimes get frustrated when my index finger sometimes hits the first string or my thumb hits the forth string when I want to play the third string. 

I'm sure that this will get better with time.  I love all the comments from others,  makes me feel like I' not alone regarding changing chords...D to C and sliding the D to G or A is really a problem that I'm sure only time will cure. 

But how long does it take for my fretting fingers to quit hurting?

After working 30 years in the airline industry, Trudy and I are now traveling around the country with our Casita Travel Trailer. Although we were both born and raised in Ohio, we now live in North Central Florida and belong to the Lone Star Dutch Oven Society. We travel 2 months in the spring and 2 months in the fall to cook at dutch oven gatherings. We recently got interested in chuck wagon cookoffs while we were out west. We have been judges and cooked with the 1850 chuck wagons. I look forward to joining in playing my banjo around campfires as we travel.
