One day I thought to myself, "wouldn't it be great if I learned to play the banjo?" That "seed" (if you will) was planted by Douglas Dillard. I had watched the Darling boys for years; and as I got older, I became attracted to the banjo and bluegrass music. I rented a banjo in November, 2010 to give it a try. For about a month I just messed around with it to see if I would want to make a commitment to learn the banjo. I made that commitment a month after first picking up the rented banjo by beginning lessons. Finally, in late January of 2011, I received my first banjo as a birthday gift: my Deering Goodtime II, which I still play. At last, I was seriously learning to play the banjo. I made a good decision in taking up the banjo. Yes, there's been times when I get really frustrated with it. But when a difficult song finally clicks, it's the greatest thing in the world. You think to yourself, "I've got it! This song sounds almost like Earl is playing!" That's a great feeling. Happy picking!
