I have the 1926 Gibson Mastertone Ball Bearing # 8280-50
I found it on line 5 years ago at the Turtle Hill Banjo Co. in Maryland
It's a TB-3 all original with a nicely crafted 5 string neck on it now. I have the original 4 string neck also. I ordered a Sullivan flat head tone ring for it and installed it but it sounded much like an RB-4 (which I liked) but it lost that "Ball Bearing" sound so I repented and put it back original.
I keep a very young, thin calf skin head on it.
All of our recordings from the "The Back In The Day" Radio Broadcasts (WKBA 1550 AM Roanoke, Va.) were recorded with this banjo.
I also pick a 1929 Gibson TB-2 Pyramid (all original except for the 5 string neck) I'll post something recorded with it as soon as I have time.
By the way; I'm proud to say that there was only one baby calf killed in the making of my calf skin banjo head. We believe in doing our part to keep the music in "Almighty God's" beautiful earth sounding as good as it "can" sound...!
Repent of your sin and "Pick Hard"
God would want it that way,
Steve Miller

This is an all Gospel Bluegrass band which was started in 2007 with 40's & 50's bluegrass sound.
