I am about to put my greatgrandmothers mando up for sale with pictures. It is a 1905 gibson A model. She bought it when she moved here from Italy. She bought the mandolin in 1906 and I still have the receipt for $27.50, alot for back in the day. It would have been real hard to find the age without the sales receipt even with the serial number. She played that italian style with alot of frailing. From what my grandfather told me, after he gave it to me last year, is that she gave lessons and when she died in 1948 it was put in a box and hardly looked at again until a couple years ago. It sounds incredible and the owner of my local music store said it is in better than mint condition. If that even exists. He or I don't know how to price it and I have heard from musicians any where from $5000 to $8000. I found one like it on ebay, about a 1912, for $2000. It was in poor condition though. I can go either way on this beauty. If I sell it for a fair price or not I get to keep it, which is great, or someone that plays mando get a piece of history. To stop the question before it starts. Why sell it? My family could use the money. I'd love to keep it and maybe I will. It would be nice though, to at least get a price on it and not the book value price. But someone who enjoys collecting memorabillia and can make music flow from it. It will come with a nice solid case and framed sales receipt. Well I guess make me an offer. It's goin' on 104 years. Keep an eye on the classifieds in the next 2 days. --Banjoooee
