This looks like a good place to hang out...

We host The Open Door Coffeehouse, a charity concert series in Arlington TX. Last night was an evening of Scottish music with Ed Miller, John Taylor, Jil Chambless and Scooter Muse. I've known Ed for years, if you want to hear an honest, pure, heartfelt rendition of a song ( particularly a Scottish folksong ), He's the guy to call. John has to be one of the finest Scottish fiddlers on earth, not showy at all, just pure and true. Jil is an artful singer and plays flute so sweetly it could make a grown man cry. And Scooter, well he's the kind of consumate musician who can gently glue it all together and make it sound great so the average listner hardly knows he's there. Anyone who loves a tune should hear John, Jil and Scooter play airs or reels. It's the kind of music that makes the world a better place. Catch them at a Scottish festival near you soon.

This morning at breakfast, Scooter mentioned he posted the story of his ODE banjo on Banjo Hangout, so I had to look and see, It is great to see a hangout for all those folks who have discovered how much richer life can be with banjo in it.

Thanks for the head's up, Scooter...

I've loved music, especially folk music all my life. started out as a drummer and a kid singing in church choir. learned to fingerpick guitar as a teenager, so I could sing folk songs. A friend left a banjo at the house a few years ago, 3 weeks later he had a few hundred bucks and I had a banjo. It fell over and broke the neck off at the mounting screws. I picked it up, took it apart and put it back together, plays better than ever. My wife gave me a kit to build a Gold Tone 250+ ( how's that for true love, giving your husband all the parts to make a BANJO ) and I found out building is almost as much fun as playing. I play banjo like I play guitar, thumb and 3 fingers, no picks - I like to feel the strings.
