Join us for a 2-Day Banjo Workshop with

Mark Raborn and Chris Talley Armstrong

                                                    Birdman Coffee & Books

5687 Commerce St

St. Francisville, LA  225-635-3665

Saturday & Sunday, July 1 & 2, 2017 *9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m

This comprehensive 5-string banjo workshop is ideally suited for  beginner and intermediate skill-levels and will cover many, MANY aspects of playing banjo. We will divide the group at times to better accommodate different proficiency levels. From hand-positioning to rolls, chords and how to make it all work, we’ll help you learn new tunes and advance your playing, no matter what level you’re at and no matter what learning challenges you’ve experienced. Even if you’ve never taken a banjo lesson, or seen a banjo up close—this class is from you! We will give each participant individual attention and have you playing tunes! If you need a banjo, we will have some to loan on hand (for the length of the class).

Some of the topics we will cover include:

Banjo playing basics

Getting the most results with the least effort

How to begin playing in jam sessions when you don’t know the music.

Playing Technique: Does it seem like you practice and practice and see little improvement? Sometimes, a subtle technique adjustment will make all the difference.

Fret-board geography: Includes Licks and lines, chords, scales and how to use them in your playing.

Three primary styles of 3-finger playing- Scruggs, Melodic and Single-String.

We will spend a fair amount of time on ‘back-up’ technique, so you can begin playing with others by the time you leave on Sunday.

Basic instrument set-up—Chris is a master at banjo set-up and will help you get the most sound from your instrument and keep it that way.

Tunes, Tunes, Tunes! Be thinking of music you would like to learn.

Lots of Jamming!

Each participant will receive handouts of tablature and relevant work materials, as well as audio files with tunes we work on, both slow and medium tempo. It’s like 3-6 months of lessons in two days!

PRE-REGISTRATION IS REQUIRED.  To register, contact Lynn at The Birdman at 225-635-3665.  Cost is $220 and includes lots of take-home materials and follow-up!  Contact Mark with questions at markraborn2@yahoo.com. Financial assistance available. Please don’t miss this event because of money!
