Here is a quick and dirty recording on my old aluminum banjo. I'm using an E-Minor because one of the fiddlers that I play with likes it that way.

A fun time at the November 12 UIS jam, lead by one of our fine mandolin players. Group consists of (I think) 2 mandolins, 2-3 fiddles, 3 guitars, and a banjo.

I learned this from a recording made by Bassman of a jam session the Gebhart Woods Dulcimer Festival in Morris Illinois, that we were in on Sunday, June 11 2006. He was kind enough to email me the recording on Monday morning. The tune is a modern one that sounds like an old tune, written by Peter Lippincott and posted here by his permission. You should take a look at his pottery creations at http://mudpuppy-studios.com/

Just did this because I was in the mood. Someday I'd like to see the contra dance set that goes with this tune. I'm on my old aluminum banjo. I've gotten rid of a little bit of cruft that I had when I first started playing it in 2006, and it now matches what my fiddler friend plays.

Played in open C on my Gold Tone WL-250. I learned this tune from Usonian's version in the Sound off and Zepp's version on his site. Thanks guys.

Pretty tune. I was reminded of it by a posting by Pat Costello on his site,l where he plays it on a cigar box banjo. I am in G on my GoldTone WL-250

My highly idiosyncratic version of Spring Creek Gal combined with my slightly idiosyncratic Moses Hoe Your Corn.

A recording done by my little Olympus voice recorder of our jam, I think Nov 4 2008. The main instruments you hear are Mark on mandolin, Steve on fiddle, and me on the WL-250. There were one or two other fiddlers who were working out the tune, but being pretty quiet, and you can hear a couple of people letting the guitar folks know what the chords are.

Not a Christmas song! The Fiddler's Companion says that Star is used in the sense of "a notable woman" as in Star of the County Down. The FC also lists this as an AKA of Bonaparte Crossing the Rhine, but to me the two are similar but distinct.
