Genre: Old Time / Playing Style: Clawhammer and Old-Time
This is my version of Jody Stecher's version of this classic tune. I make a TON of errors, so it's nothing to admire. But it was fun to do, regardless. Jody is my teach and the first 30-odd seconds are more-or-less what he teachers. The rest is my elaboration or interpretation. Sorry for the lousy tuning and the numerous errors.

Hah, awesome! I'm trying to figure out what's up w/ that wonderful tone as well. The banjo is about ten years old, so maybe the wood is seasoning a little, and it's the original synthetic skin head that came with the instrument ... believe it or not I haven't changed the strings in about six or seven years, using heavy-gauge strings, but most of all I think it's the tuning. The Goodtime really sounds resonant in C, Double C (the tuning in the recording) and F. In G and it sounds a lot less resonant.
I've been working on a revised version of the tune more in keeping with Jody's lesson, which I'll post in the next week or so.

As good as this sounds in this clip, and you're right, the double C tuning makes it sound deeper (as do the heavy gauge strings), I gauarantee if you put some new strings, it will sound even better...
