How do you shred something with a spoon?
I need to correct that misstatement. I peeled the ginger with a spoon, the classic method, then shredded. Sorry. Brad

This salad was good and a nice change from a more slaw type dressing. Brad

I do not have a personal experience recall to answer that question, other than visual in some uses? I imagine they are like carrots, full of good nutrients? My wife prefers peeled carrots, so I do...unless they are part of a stew/soup thing then I try not to. Brad
I'm lazy in that regard. I wash veggies like carrots, ginger, taters, and whatnot to get rid of dirt, bird poop, and critters, but after that I use the whole thing. I'm a skin-on tater guy, even with mashed taters.
However, back in 2020, I did remove this frog before I ate that head of romaine. (S)he found a nice cool wet shady spot. Can't say I blame him/her.

Spent the last almost 2 weeks in Maui and didn’t post here very much, but wanted to highlight some of the amazing meals we had dining out and in !!!
The most important thing I learned is…………………I won’t be complaining about grocery prices or dining out prices in our area ever again!!! I have NO CLUE how people, especially the locals, can survive and live on the Hawaiian Islands.
Maybe that’s why they are all leaving!!! Prices at grocery stores and dining out are shocking and I couldn’t believe what I was seeing. I knew it was high, but never thought those prices were possible.
Campbell’s can of tomato soup $3.89. Frozen pizzas. $12.00 to 25.00
2 liter Coke. $6.49 Cereal- none under $6.00. Cigarettes 18-23 bucks!!!
Produce was a joke and dairy is limited IMO.
I guess that’s the price you pay to live in “paradise “ .
Slammer!!!
The meat on Maui “raise locally” was surprisingly good looking , although extremely expensive. Went to a Foodland Farms store to get fresh Poke , and when I saw these steaks, we signed up to be members and got the club price. Pretty good deal actually!!!
Couldn’t pass up this bad boy and we had a great steak dinner and shaved steak sandwiches a day or two later. Took a while to grill this behemoth but I nailed it as in a perfect med rare!!!

Dale, that steak looks great. Wife and I are down to buying one big steak, bone-in preferably, and well marbled, and share. (I adopted my daughter's FIL method of slicing up the steak in strips to put all on a serving plate. Then we each cherry-pick the strips we want, then have enough for a reheat another day.) Brad

Me too. And I use a lot of ginger. Straight out of the freezer and through the micro plane grater

Never thought of freezin it first..
Sounds like a good idea...
Fresh caught fish is difficult to find on Maui, unless you know someone. The local fish market had 3 different fresh caught options $40.00 to $43.99 per pound. This was one pound of fresh caught Ono (wahoo) that I grilled poolside at our condo. A nice fish dinner out averaged $68.00 per order not including sides, drinks , tax & tip, parking , valet tips or the sunset view we had!!!
The Ono was very firm, flaky , white subtlety sweet fish. The leftover cold fish made for a great addition to appetizers the next day.

No pics, but tabouleh. Bulgur wheat, parsley, chicken, sautéed onions and peppers. Sadly, I'm out of any sort of tomatos from last year's harvest.
Tabouleh is traditionally vegetarian, but I'm not opposed to adding meat sometimes. It's a great light summertime meal, often served on leaves of romaine or butterhead lettuce. When served on romaine leaves I call them, "salad boats". Just pick up the leaf and nosh. Butterhead isn't usually stiff enough, but the leaves are larger so you can make wraps with them.
Some feta cheese and a touch of lemon juice are good additions.
And a glass or two of red wine.

We plant a lot of parsley, and when it becomes necessary to cut it back, its tabbouleh time. Luckily Marilyn has the patience to make it. That's a lot of parsley to pluck and chop. A friend grows a lot of lettuces, so we don't have to. Brad

That's the same for me. It lives in the freezer rather than withering away in the fridge.

That looks fantastic Dale.

Nice looking pizza Jonty and nice cheese pull with a cheesy grin!!!
My daughter sent a picture yesterday of a pizza she made that was also sourdough. I’ve been waiting to get a good starter for sourdough bread , but we don’t eat enough bread to keep up with it.
My son makes some of the best pizza I’ve EVER had. Told my son and daughter maybe we all need t move to Maui and open a family business. Couldn’t find good pizza anywhere on the island.
Slammer!!!
While in Maui, during our Road to Hana Tour, included in our trip was a provided lunch of the infamous Huli Huli Chicken. Large chunk of grilled chicken served with a scoop of rice and a scoop of macaroni salad (everything every where in Maui comes with either 2 scoops of rice or one rice and one macaroni salad). So basically it was grilled over mesquite (they have a different name for the tree, but it’s mesquite) . Huli Huli means to turn often, but I don’t think it was turned much at all. Great smokey flavor but that was about it. Just done (maybe) and quite rubbery.
So , last night I made my own Huli Huli chicken on da Weber and it was 10 times better. Marinated chicken in a little soy sauce, pineapple juice, garlic, ginger, onion and Korean chili flakes and then grilled. Definitely gonna make this again!!!
