Wildwood custom archtop

From tonygo on 10/5/2025 2:34:48 PM

A guy has one listed on facebook. Any one here have an opinion on the bluegrass archtop style made by Wildwood? He is asking $1200 for it which seems like a great price.

$1200 for a Wildwood? You bet that's a great price. I hardly ever see a Wildwood for sale and if it's a genuine offer, I'd be happy to relieve him of it for $1200.

I got it today. The label inside, signed by M. Platin is dated Oct. 1977. It is a beaut.

Nice. They are good banjos, and if you don't care for it, reselling it shouldn't be a problem. Enjoy!

So I bought this Wildwood Archtop and it has a flaw. I would like some advice and opinion about it. The neck when carved appears to have been slightly over shot between the 2 and 4th fret. You can see it when you sight down towards the fifth peg. This mistake causes the 4th string to roll off when fretted before the 5th fret if not fretted squarely. The positive part is it makes me fret cleanly, the negative is it rolls off and sounds like geese farts if I am not accurate enough. What would you do? I suspect there is not much to be done. I expect this flaw will make it hard to sell and maybe is why I got a good price on it. It is plenty good enough for me at my beginner level and I can live with it for the forseeable future. Thanks for your time and comments. A luthier has looked at it and is quite sure the problem is not the nut or bridge but that it is every so slightly over carved/sanded.
