Made a family favourite last night. Caldo Verde - Portuguese potato cabbage and chorizo soup. Made some fake chorizo for the veggie by frying quorn in lots of oil and paprika- then used the oil to simulate the lovely fat you get coming out of the chorizo. Worked pretty well. Meat version is bottom left. rinemb Brad - this may be a good one for your family get togethers - the veggie option was (nearly) just as good as the meat version
This morning. We almost finished off a pan of coffee cake I made along with croissants I bought. Coffee cake dough was a mix of cream cheese, flour, egg. Butter, sugar, etc. the middle layer was a thick schmear of cherry preserves with stirred in lemon juice. Topped with chopped pecans and brown sugar. Brad

Last night's dinner, consisting of nachos with ground venison (now in its third iteration) chicken wings, and iceberg slab salad with bleu cheese dressing and crumbles.
Al, that looks great. But then I consider the heat likely in that meal, and I think Yikes? Brad
We had leftovers from our annual holiday-nice meal out. She ate on her prime rib, and I worked on my bone-in ribeye. We still did not finish the meat, so I thin sliced the remaining of each. Tonight, we will make sandwiches on some nice buns. 3 meals each on our dinner kind of offsets the sting of paying for it. Brad

Thank you, for so many years, the only products I had to make veggie dish that is like the meat dish, were blocks of tofu and mushrooms. On Christmas Day I will be roasting a beef tenderloin. I will use large portabello mushrooms, seasoned and roasted just like the beef- for our veggies.
our Christmas Eve mock turtle soup will be, one pot with ground sirloin, the other with the simulated veggie ground beef. Frankly , when we use the fake ground beef in Chile and other soups, I can't tell the difference.
btw, I think I have seen fake chorizo at the market, by the fake polish sausage, fake Italian sausage, fake breakfast sausage.

Battening down the hatches, supposed to get ugly around my neck o' the woods tomorrow evening. High winds, lots of snow! Hoping not to lose power. I'm flu-ish so I ordered groceries to be delivered before the storm hits.(fingers crossed) Your prayers on my behalf, appreciated.

I gotta start using the charcoal grill more often, but damn, pushin buttons is so easy and I’ve fallen into a rut!!! I do love that super high intense heat char that is quick without cooking the middle of the steak or burger that certain steak joints can do !!!
This spring my son and I went on a salmon fishing trip, and went to a bar/restaurant for a burger. Both of us said it was the best burger ever!!! He walked back to the kitchen to tell em and inquire. Cooked in a 1200 F Broiler !!! Hello………Santa !!!

Thanks Brad - i'll keep an eye out for that. I suspect the paprika and oil trick will still be required to get that 'slick' on the top of the soup but fake chorizo would save me messing around.

When my gas BBQ died I intentionally replaced it with a charcoal weber. I loved the convenience, but much prefer cooking on coals. I use a chimney starter and a 30 second tickle with my mapp gas torch.
Congrats! I have both a Weber gasser and another grill or two for charcoal or lump (depends if I am grilling or doing a “long and slow.” Admittedly , it’s too easy to just fire the gasser than relaxing and taking time to fire a chimney of charcoal. The map gas does make that easier and quicker.
Winter time I May on outdoor cook a couple of times, and that is with the gasser.
Btw, which Weber did you get?
