The first pic in the second set of pics..

Is the extractor..
This one has a spring plunger.. yhat when works properly...
Creates light pressure..on the parts..n

Holds them in place..

Mine ..had.."mung".. in it..
Had to be freed up..n lubed up

N cleaned out..

The plunger is held in by being stamped in place..
Buggah.. so no real good way to remove it..

But soaking it in solvent or penitrating oil..
PB blaster works good..

N working it ..may free it up.
Mine did..

But you can ..if you search..find a used one..for sale..

These little guns had a few differnt generations.. n may be a little differnt ..from piece to piece..

Mine is about yours vintage..
Mine has a leaf spring ..for the hammer spring..
But some newer ones have coil springs..

I did not post pics of that..

N it is a bit differnt..
Do not worry...
Also ..
Mine has a take down screw..
To remove the barrel..
Yours may have a reguliar screw..

It matters that the barrel is set all the way back into the frame..

Once the parts are out..
They kinda fall out..
Expect some..um..fiddling to get them bacj in..
I use a small flat bladded screw driver to help line holes n things up..

No forcing..
Right is right..

Btw..that gun might be worth.. .some good bucks..

Oh clean it while it is apart..
Can of break cleaner works well..avoid spraying the woods finish tho..

If you get in trouble..
Mebee a road trip is warrented..

I may have to hit  you up on that.  Well, I took her apart cleaned and inspected everything.  The link holes didn't look bad or out of round.  Had one little SNAFU.  I cocked it to get the block out and went to release the hammer and of course I allowed the hammer to come too far forward and the hammer spring shot past its grove.  Rookie mistake, I haven't done any gunsmithing in a while (took a course many years ago).  But all is well, I took it all the way down and reinstalled the hammer spring, hammer and trigger.  I got her all back together and it locks up tight now.  When putting the lever back in I had to use a drift pin to get the pivot pins back in.  Maybe that's why she's tight.  I don't know but it worked.  Oh and yes the hammer spring is the leaf style so they are more than likely similar in age.  I also hear you on about the parts.  I had Numrich pulled up just in case.  I did free up that little springed nub on the extractor and that may be the back pressure to lock up correctly.  Makes scense now.

STUD, I want to personally thank you for this thread and pics showing the innards.  It got me excited to fix that ol' rifle and now I'm excited to shoot it.   I forgot how much fun it is to fix and tinker on guns.    Had to break out a lot more tools than I was planning.

Yes that little plunger spring..in the extractor gives just nuff pressure..to hold things in place be not be loose or hangy...

Ohhh that's perdy. 

I found a 22LR barrel for my rifle, its awful tempting but they want a pretty penny for it. I'd have to liquidate some banjo parts if I really want it.

From a mossberg barrel...
Could do that but in 22 long rifle..

Probly could use most any cheap 22 lr barrel to make it..

Yea what I found the often list the 414 and 44 together.  One thing I found said the 44 Ideal and Favorite used the same barrel.   I'll do some digging around and see what I come up with.

Looks like it is a 44 frame..
After looking it up more on line..

Most are going 400 t0 500 at auction...

But Cabelas has one for saele for $2399.00..

But if you can find ammo cheap as i did on the net you should be fine..
