This is how good me bluing method works..

It is the prep work that matters..
Matching finishes..
N..it has to be clean n free of ..any.. oil..

Can not really tell factory blue from mine..

Todays venture..

Making 8 mm mauser berdan primed cases inta boxer primed..ones..
Halfta load the pics..

The prossess..
Punch out the berdan anvil..n..primer cup...

Re seat the old used berdan primer cup....


Chuck in the lathe..n end mill out the center..

This leaves a brass bushing..in the cup as so..
Once it is swaged..a boxer primer..will fit nice n tight..

Latest project..
A 98 mauser.
With double set triggers..
8mm mauser round..

Had the piece of buggered wood...barrell came to me free..
Bought the action..n triggers..

Removed..the military sights..n..dressed up the barrel..
The stock had a few issues too..but still solid..n fixable..

Just another nice little project..

Gotta zero in on the headspace..ah bit..
Probly cut 2 to 3 thousants..off the barrel face...jus to tighten it up..

More things to learn..
The wood needs some real attendtion..as..it has been on more n one gun..in it's life ..so far..

Another way to make 8mmx57 mauser...

Formed from 30-06 brass
Trimmed n sized

The parent case..is the one on the right...
The pic if the 2 case necks n shoulder is a formed one..n a fired 8x57 factory case..
When the newly former case is fired..in the rifles chamber..
It will look just like the fired factory 8x57 mauser case..

Ready for normal reloading..

The prosess is called fire forming..

N..here is a fire formed case..

Al, It is obvious you enjoy messing with vintage bolt action rifles.
Recently, I was online researching about WWI American Sapper Units. My Grandfather was a Sapper in WWI, from Alsace to the big push up through and into the Ardennes. Being a hardscrabble farmer in West Virginia as a kid, then life in the oil fields before WWI, he knew how to dig, build stuff and blow stuff up, so he was a good fit to be a "sapper."
I found this pic of a modified (for protection in the tunnels) of a MKIII Enfield?. I thought you and others might enjoy the pic of extreme modifications of a weapon.

Awesome projects. I'm in the works of refurbishing two Hawkins rifles. I was thinking of making one a flintlock but that's a chore. So two percussions it is.

I enjoyed my Hawkins kit rifle.  While I built a few muzzle loader kit guns, this one was built by a friend of my dad for him.( that guy was an experienced hobby gun builder)  It passed to me in the early 1990s.  Even loaded to the max, it had a reasonably friendly kick.  I had no problem making a tight pattern of shots at 100 yards.  At 200 yds I was a bit less proud. of my accuracy.  I have not shot it for 20 years, I guess.  You will enjoy them.  Brad
