I took My Athenafied Classic to The Big Jam In K.C. Mo. last night, Lot of great pickers showed up, I even learned two new tunes. My Classic was Knocking,, Popping,, Ringing,, Zinging, Putting out the sounds I like,, We had a great time. Wood tone Rings are great.. And WOW..

Hi Just thought I'd tell You, I am taking My Athenafied Classic Deluxe to Church again this Morn. Any day at Church is a good day.,, Praise The Lord.. He (Ascended) We had a great day pickin banjo, and guitars,, Praising The Lord In Songs. This Classic is really getting hot, The Vibes are waking up this wood ring, I guess, It's sounding better all the time. Anyone that Have not picked a Wood Ring Nechville, should try one, around 7 Lb's,, and sounds like Bronze, just GREAT.. And it stays In Tune.
What more could You Want.

Snakeherd/Scott...I'll elaborate a little more on what you said above. I went by Tom's booth at Merlefest this Thursday. I was greeted by Al Price, Ted Williams, and Tom Nechville and invited to pick and view some of Tom's banjos. I listened for several minutes to a local picker (sorry, I can't remember his name...Russ, I think?) play one of the newer ball bearing banjos with the resonator removed, and was quite surprised by its tone and clarity. After that picker left, I sat down with Al to get some knowledge about Nechville banjos firsthand.

Al explained the basics of the Nechville helimount system, how easy it was to adjust neck tilt, string action, and the specifications of the neck radius and larger frets. I picked on a maple Phantom that had the ball-bearing tonering system, and a roller for the fifth string pip...what a neat idea. The "hidden" fifth string is a plus for sure...no bumping into the fifth peg! The neck played like a dream, and if I didn't like the action..it would not take more than a few minutes to adjust. Yeah, I'm liking the banjo very much at this point. The tone was, as others have said here many times..."very musical". That's a very good description. The thing is, is that it can be changed so easily that it is banjo of many layers of sound and colors! That is as simple as I could put it. I like Tom's inventions, and I'm going back to pick on some more tomorrow. Thanks Tom, Al, and Ted for introducing me to the world of Nechville!

i am back after a week and a half I went to the big jam In K.C. Mo. friday night, We had a pro picker show up, We had a great time 3 banjo's and a guitar, it's hard to believe how metalic this wood tone ring sounds,, I think it's because of the 80 ball bearings pushing against the wood tone ring, tranfers the metalic sound to the wood, and head, It is so good, all the sounds, Knock,, Pop,,Ring,, Growl,, ZING,, Best banjo being made today,, and in the days to come,, Just GREAT.. I forgot to mention the pro picker, has a 1929 Granada Original arch top, with custom 5 string neck, It sounded GREAT, we traded turns on some tunes, He can play at least 4 times better than Me, The Nice guy with the new Gold Star, picks better than Me also, But all our banjo's blended together pretty good..,, Even the Best picker, can learn from a lesser picker, once an awhile,, But We can all learn something from the Pro, and His Granada ALL THE TIME.,, We had a great time, Thats what really counts..

Hi surprise, Me again., I just had to post on here again. My (ATHEANAFIED CLASSIC DELUXE) It's just sounding so great, The Wood Ring is Getting broke In real good, It sounds so metalic, and will hold it's own with any Bronze Ring banjo, I have a 3 Ply Rim, with a thin metal ring pushing against 80 Steel Balls, pushing against The Wood Tone Ring, Therfore METALIC Sound.. This banjo has a beautiful Curly Maple neck and Reso. The neck is radiused, From the back of peg head to the fifth string is V shaped, then blending into a C shape,, just so great a neck to hold, and play, this along with the Compound Radiused board, Nice BIG frets, Radiused compensated bridge, very nice Heavey stable Tailpiece, stays in tune, All this plus only weighs 7 Lbs. I have found Nothing NOT to like with this banjo, 2 years ago I heard about Nechville banjo's,, and saw a picture, I did Not think I would Like one, BUT once I saw this Nechville in the store, and saw how it came apart so easy, and fast, plus fast easy neck adjust,, This banjo has all the sounds, Knock,, Pop,, Ring,, Growl,,,Zing,.., Wood Ring sounds so Metalic, sorry I guess I already said that, but worth repeating. People like Me with a bad back should all have a Nechville like this,, and even if You don't have a bad back, You should still have a Nechville banjo,, Just Try One, They are GREAT.. Update,, I took My Classic apart last night, cheked out the head Cleaned up the Wood Tone Ring, put it back together, and changed strings, took 40 Min,,. took longer changing strings,, I'm slow at changing strings, Man it sounds soo good. Just got back from the Jam in K.C. Mo., Man did We have a great time, The Atenafied Calssic Deluxe was really Zinging, New strings realy make a difference, Med. Guage, GREAT.

Hi Mike, don't have a dial,, But have had 2 pro pickes do the scratch test, They say G sharp, and it sounds great there, with the wood Tone ring, and This is a Ren head, which is a little thicker than a Remo., So You need to configure in these two Factors.. hope that helps some..

My Turbo module arrived yesterday for my Maple Phantom Galaxy. After replacing the rim and tone ring with the module, this banjo is so light. I can't wait for band practice to see how she sounds plugged in. It's really cool lookin!

I was fortunate enough to swing by Banjo.Com in Georgia today and manage to pick 6 different banjos. 4 Nechvilles, a granada, and a Gold Star. All sounded great, but the apple of my eye was the Nechville vintage, followed by the classic, both in mahogany. Looks like the main diff was the cyclonic spheres/balls in the vintage, as compared to the regular tone ring in the classic. The setup was slightly diffrent as well, but both palyed and sounded great ! Als, but not least, mark was great to meet and was very informational about set, etc. If you in the area, make sure you get over to see him!

I have never used a combination, I have always used all Steel ball bearings, My theory is 80 steel bearing pushing against My Wood tone ring,, producing a Metallic tone from wood ring, Thats Just My thought

Al told me (correct me if I'm wrong, Al!) that the Delrin spheres make for a more Gibson-y sound.

I will be practicing some music at church this Sunday, Will take My fabulous Atenafied Classic Deluxe, and My old Gibson flat top guitar,, We will be practing some songs, then later next month, We will be pickin jam style music while the congregation has a nice meal after the evening service. I will be playing My Gibson guitar,, and singing a couple of old hymns, then pickin My great Nechville banjo,, The people really like the banjo. What A day that will Be. Good jbanjoist,, There is nothing to compare with a nechville.. My Athenafied Classic deluxe, with the Ren. head was sounding real good, But I noticed the head had streched some,, I screwed it down another 1 I/2 inch, and MAN It is really Knockin,, Popin,, Ringin,, and zingin,, plus all the other GREAT sounds these banjo's put out. People who play My Classic just can't hardly beleave it has a wood tone ring.. Keep on pickin.

Glad to hear you are back pickin, Lee, I knocked my knuckle off on the belt sander last night, and it hurts, I can hardly bend it, It'll be ok in a few days I hope, Gotta be in shape for my Gigs and workshops in Europe, Leaving on the 14th.
