I am not against anyone making a profit on a good product, but I am still undecided about the benefits of such an expensive ring. I took it on trade from John Hickman for a new banjo, because I want to keep up on what the competition is offering. If you are really hot on Burlisle, or whatever, wait til you hear its full potential- Helically mounted For those of you that don't know what I'm talking about, think of it like taking your hand off the bell before ringing it. The Helimount places no stress on the ring from the side, and allows the entire ring to resonate freely. It contributes a warm and rich undercurrent to the tone. I can not honestly say one ring is better than another, but I will say there is a difference between them, More reports may follow as I get more players to check it out. I'll be bringing it to Wintergrass, and the Denver Mid winter fest- See you There?! Tom

i went to the big Jam In K.C. Mo. last night, I exposed My Timbr--Tronic Calssic Deluxe to 5 more pickers, only two of the pickers had had never seen one, One of K.C.'s best pro pickers came in and sit down By Me, I handed Him My Nechville, He was so shocked by how light it was, I picked up My guitar, and He played The Nech. for about 35 Min. It was really Poping,, Knocking,, Ringing,, and Zinging, I wish I would have had My Tape recorder with Me. Met New pickers and Had a Great time.

My Timbr--Tronic Classic Deluxe will be going to Church tonight, and Tomorrow Night The Jam In K.C. Mo. I am constantly exposing Nechville banjo's to pickers, Even the 3 guys I pick banjo with weekly do not know completely how These banjo's take apart, and back together, and How fast and easy, Everytime someone wants to know, I remove the two lug bolts holding on the reonator, and I put The Wrenches in and loosen, or tighten in just seconds.,, I have it marked so I can always bring it back to where I had it, last week a guy had a head guage, He tested Mine at 90lbs, He moved it around thinking it would change at certain places, NO Way, It was The same in every location Nechville's are just GREAT..

In November I stopped by Tom Nechville's booth at a weekend bluegrass event, and for the first time felt what a radiused banjo neck felt like and I couldn't stop thinking how I'd like to have one for my Nechville Classic. A few weeks later I contacted Tom with some questions about a radiused neck and whether or not he would swap my then flat neck for a radiused neck. He told me he could do it and for less money than I probably thought. Tom shot me a price that I thought was more than fair. We talked about what I wanted and then all I had to do was wait until the new neck was done. Today I made a 3 hour drive down to his shop in Bloomington, and Tom made the swap. He also tweaked the set up, made a minor adjustment in the cyclotronics, put new strings on, spikes where I wanted them, and switched to a radiused bridge. There was a little ding in the resonator right alongside where the neck sits and he did a little repair that made it almost disappear. It is almost as if I've got a new banjo! Tom noticed my wrenches for adjusting the head tension (there are two) were slightly damaged. He exchanged them for a new pair. What can I say! I am amazed at how well Tom takes care of his customers. I didn't meet Tom's whole crew, (they were busy in the shop) but got to meet Wayne Sagmoen, well known for the great necks he builds, and talked a bit with Dave Hill and Bob Gwin. I tip my hat to the folks there at Nechville. A great team and great products! Thanks Tom, Wayne, and anyone else responsible for my beautiful Nechville radiused neck. Plays like a dream! And thanks for the TLC with my banjo, Tom!

You would have to see the one in my shop to believe it. It is one of the most beautiful instruments I've ever seen. Cocobola fingerboard and arm rest and incredible walnut resonator. This banjo sounds incredible, plays like a dream with the radius fingerboard and the 5th string tunnel. I love not having the 5th string tuner on the neck, but rather on the headstock. The tuners are like guitar tuners and hold better than normal banjo tuners. Tom certainly knows how to design and build an incredible instrument. If you are in the Nashville area stop by and play this Nechville. It is an incredible instrument made by Tom. Love to have you stop by.

Mo. last night, Played with good banjo picker, and My Nechville, And A great Guitarist and singer, We had a great time, We did songs in C, D A, and B, I just played back up In open neck, No Capo, I never use a Capo, Unless, My Wife plays guitar with Me at Church, Like a song in Key of C, I play staight Open Neck C, BUT I put a capo on the guitar at the 5 fret for My wife so She can play in G positions, Her artheritisis is bad So it helps her, I am working toward never use capo on banjo, Exept maybe 3 percent of the songs. Anyway My (Timber--Tronic Classic Deluxe was Ringing,, Poping,, Knocking,, and Zinging, Just fantastic for a Cocobolo Wood Tone Ring..

I tried a phantom out but i went with the stealth instead.Nice banjo's but just not really my thing i guess.All though i havent actually ever got to really try out any of the other models.So at SPBGMA i will no doubt try them..But as far as the phantom vs the stealth..the stealth won.

I tried out a Nechville at the Twelfth Fret in Toronto. Not sure of the model, but it had a radius fretboard and it knocked me out it played so nice. And what a beautiful sound. The experience made me want one - I must be crazy - I have a converted KK prewar but I lust for the Nechville. May be going to SPBGMA next week and hope to me Tom there and try one out again.

I just got a new Phantom in maple, that is hands down the best playing and sounding banjo I've ever played (and I have a 1933 RB-11). I've got a Crafters of TN and have had Greg Rich Gibson's, and have played just about every kind of banjo made - Tom's work is superior in every regard, aesthetically, playability, sound, everything.

This is the first Nechville I've ever owned - and I was so taken back by the beautiful custom work, the sound and tone that I thought I would do a video of it to show it off (sound it off?). My playing is no match for the potential that banjo has, but hopefully you can hear for yourself how great it is:

Jc, sounds like You have necer played a Nechville that was set up right, They sound GREAT,, I wish You could hear the sound of My Classic Deluxe, with a Cocobolo Wood Tone Ring, weighs 7 lbs and sounds as good or better than a bronze ring, You can get ANY sound You want..

Since Lee hasn't checked in, I thought I'd comment. Last Fall I had Tom build a radiused mahogany "Orion" neck that --with the help of the Flux Capacitor-- transformed my old RB 250 into an easy playing machine. I'll add that the addition of the Comfort-bevel Armrest really helps too. So, I've been playing that banjo a lot to get used to the feel.....the tone didn't change much to my ear...still a Gibson. Yesterday I pulled out the walnut Phantom and put new strings on it......oh my! First of all the Phantom is so musical ...pure sweet tones. I've played just about every major brand of banjo, and Nechvilles are very distinctive in their musicality. Secondly, it is nice to get rid of that 5th sting tuner that grabs my thumb every once in a while. Nothing beats the Phantom for pure pleasure of playing.....smooth. AND finally, it is a beautiful piece of work that constantly gets ooo'd and ahhh'd. Funny, they talk about my banjo, but they don't say much about my playing???

I took My Great Timbr--Tronic Classic Deluxe to the big jam in K.C. Mo. last night, We had a 4 banjo workshop going, We had a great time.. The guy with the Stelling, said He had just adjuted His Co ordinator rods, to lower His Action, I told Him I had NO rods in Mine, to warp the rim, He was shocked, so I took off My Reso, showed Him, Then I put The wrenches on it, and showed Him the eaze of Loosening, and tighting the head, and eplained, how fast You could change tone rings, and or heads, He was really surprised, More people are finally catching on To the beauty of Nechville banjo's.

I had only heard of Nechville banjo's and hadn't heard a lot to say the least. I saw Lee's post yesterday about the workshop in Lawrence and since I'm here in Lawrence I decided to check em out. I have to say I am VERY IMPRESSED!! When tom said "wood" i was like he's crazy.... much to my shegrin those things got some crack to em! The adjustments to get different tones and sounds were unbelievably easy and oh so fast. I watched him swap out the head and tone ring from one banjo to the other, 2 banjos apart and back together and picking in 20 minutes maybe less. Very impressive to say the least! Thanks Tom for coming to town and putting the workshop on. I had fun and learned alot about the Banjo Revolution!

Tom had 5 new banjo's at mass Street music, all GREAT open backs, Archtop, Chrome plated,, Gold plated, and a Beautifull Chocolate finish on one that was Fantastic, also some new Inlays, just great, Tom is just a GREAT guy to deal with, and Puts out Very Top Grade Banjo's, I found Myself wanting a New Nechvillw..

Parting with your old friend will no doubt be a wrench but nice though the RKs are, a Nechville beats one hands down. I think you would find that even if you kept it, once you've got a Nechville in your hands you would not want to get the RK out of its case.

I've got a nice old Antoria which has only seen daylight twice in the last 2 and a half years.

Really pleased for you.
